Ozone is widely used in the pharmaceutical industry to purify water for process applications. The International Society of Pharmaceutical Engineers has issued new guidelines on the design and use of ozone systems for pharmaceutical water treatment and sanitization. Ozone finds use in many water treatment applications where it is critical to have a broad spectrun biocide that readily decomposes to a safe by product, oxygen. In addition, ozone can be made from air on site and thus eliminates the need to purchase or store dangerous chemicals in the manufacturing facility.
The ozonation process can also be highly automated with instruments to precisely control the ozone dose and residual concentration.
