The technical conference “Disinfection 2009” will be held at the end of February in Atlanta and is sponsored by WEF, AWWA, IWA, IUVA and the Georgia Association of Water Professionals. This conference has provided a forum for those professionals concerned with disinfection needs and technologies since 1993. The conference will be focused on all aspects of the disinfection of water, wastewater, reuse water and biosolids. The conference will also have a special focus on the disinfection or other treatment of water, and the disinfection and treatment of wastewater in small communities and households in developed and developing countries.
This conference is targeted for engineers, scientists, engineer managers, consultants, academics, health officials, wastewater and water treatment plant operators and regulators, graduate students, implementing organizations, non-governmental organizations and governmental agencies, researchers, manufacturers and their representative groups, and the industrial community from North America and abroad.
The objective of this conference is to present and share information on various applications, status, and future directions of disinfection with respect to water, wastewater and biosolids throughout the world. It is designed to provide a forum for an exchange of ideas and experiences in this broad and dynamic area. Specific objectives are as follows:
- Present uses and advances in technologies such as UV, chlorination, ozonation, other oxidant, disinfection and combined processes.
- Clarify treatment and control measures forwater and wastewater in small communities and households in developed and developingcountries.
- Provide regulatory updates on future disinfection standards for water, wastewater, reuse water, andbiosolids.
- Discuss or inform on the current status and future use of alternative indicators of disinfection efficacy.
