LOS ANGELES – The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency is honoring the Orange County Water District for a major water reclamation project.
Wastewater that would have been discharged to the ocean is now recovered for use within the district. the water is treated using microfiltration, reverse osmosis and advanced oxidation processes. The water is then pumped into injection wells where the it percolates into the ground and blends with Orange County’s other sources of groundwater.
The Orange County Water District supplies water to more than 20 cities and water agencies, serving more than 2.3 million Orange County residents. Orange County should be congratulated for developing sustainable water resources for their residents.
