We like to post information on major cities that are adding ozone as part of their drinking water treatment program.  Once such project is is the proposed $108.5 million upgrade to Tampa’s potable water treatment facilities. Work there, which would begin in February 2010, would convert purification processes from chlorine to liquid ammonia to help reduce the risk of releasing dangerous gases into the environment. It also would add ozone generators that would decrease the need for other treatment chemicals, and increase security at the city’s seven water production and distribution facilities.  As the Tampa case shows, ozone offers the potential to improve the security of drinking water plants by reducing the use of chlorine gas as well as saving money on other treatment chemicals.
